Oh, how I love the 'daisy chain of hope'! Yes, please, together lets create this 'daisy chain of hope'. It already feels much like this on Substack in general and even more here, in this community on your publication, Diana. Thanks for these wonderful words.
I add my daisy to your love chain of hope... may it go around the world and around again.
I have been writing about myself as a garden, and interestingly, was asked, “if I were a flower, what would I be.” I chose a daisy. 🌼 it was surprising, as I thought I’d be a peony in bloom, full and plush with deep soft, pillowy petals.. but there was something innocent about a daisy, and the image of “loves me, loves me not.” I turned that question around to “what is it I love.”
You are such an inspiration Diana! Yes, this is all we can do at this moment- tend do our garden and grow daisies. The world has always know tough times. We can’t give up. And I love that yoga picture of you! What a magical place! I wish we could practice yoga together, in person, there!
Such a beautiful reminder, Diana. I think you and I (and many others in these comments) refuse to stick our heads in the sand, but at the end of the day, we have to retreat into our own work—our attempt to put art and beauty and kindness into the world—as a form of self-care and self-preservation, but also a way to join and support a community of others doing the same.
Adding a hope daisy from Australia, because I hold onto the belief that hope will get us through.
I love the simplicity and innocence of daisies, and as a child loved weaving them together too.

So interesting to hear about your East German mother inlaw. Would live to hear more about her thoughts during the bombing.
"Maybe I’m to come forward and just do my work."
