Hey Rebecca! There are so many wonderful wines in Switzerland. How fortunate that your parents cultivated your taste in wine. I was also raised in a household where we kids were given a finger width of wine with dinner.
Our wine shop is babarolo.com - as you know shipping to Switzerland from the EU is €€€€€€ but since you're not far from us I'm sure we could think of something! 😉we have several CH customers and we've made it work one way or the other!
I have been a huge "fan" of Italian wines since my stay in Piemonte during truffle season some 20 years ago. I still recall the misty mornings, and the wonderful autumn colors of the vineyards.Age and doctor's orders now confine me to just a few drinks per week; my wine cellar has moved up from cellar to pantry; but I still have a fine selection of wines from Piemonte, and an amazing gadget - the Coravin - enables me to enjoy my wines happily (and responsibly!). A couple of weeks ago I organized a Barolo tasting for a few friends, conducted by a good friend, sommelier, wine educator and Italophile. What a wonderful afternoon! Fine selection of wines, excellent Italian cheeses from a local importer, followed by a light lunch of pasta with a wonderful pork ragù (Snake River Farms pork!), insalata tricolore, and wrapping up with some Piemontese chocolate hazelnut truffles. Ah, if only Italy were not so far away! Thank you for this lovely posting. I will continue to dream!
Wonderful, Mary! What a sumptuous comment. Thank you for being here. Piemonte in the autumn is beyond wonderful. The Coravin is a fantastic invention. We prepare degustazioni here at our home in Germany. Each one is slightly different and memorable.
Luckily, it's morning here, and I've just had breakfast—otherwise, I'd be sitting here drooling. 😄This food just sounds heavenly. And so typically Italian. 😊
If I’d learned more about wine at an earlier age, I’m pretty sure I would have become a sommelier or a vintner. The farming, the chemistry and science, the pairing of wine to excellent cuisine, and the social aspects of sharing a bottle… Love!
My husband and I enjoyed a lovely brunello last night, one we shipped from Montalcino a year and a half ago. And we had a conversation about placing an order in the near future. And then you mentioned the tariff junkie, and our hearts just fell. We will research this today and hopefully get an order in before the tariffs on the EU take place. Maybe???
God, life in the US as we all have known it is changing so fast.
My husband became a somm at 65 just because he wanted to! I love that he did that for himself. It was a lot of studying and tasting but so worth it.
I love the food/ wine synergy.
Yes please give your winery a try before things get worse. It depends upon which state you're in how current law affects transport ( also which shipper your winery uses).
At 65??? I love this. This should not surprise me at all. Hell, I quit accounting and became a full time author for a while! Well, you both are an inspiration to me. You for your artistry and he for his love of wine.
Oh, yes, wine! One of life's great pleasures. I was introduced to wine very early in life, at the age of 15. My parents are wine lovers, and we often visited vineyards for tastings and to purchase directly from the producer. As you might have guessed, I grew up in Europe. Since my parents were with me, I was allowed to taste the wines even though I was still very young.
Not only did I learn about the different flavours and nuances of wines, but I also learned to appreciate and treasure them. I even bought my first bottles of wine when I was about 16 years old, using one of my very first salaries. And now, I live in a village that can rightfully call itself a Weinbaudorf (winemaking village).
So yes, wine has been a constant in my life. I'm not very knowledgeable, but I know what I like. And Barolo is certainly one of the wines I enjoy very much.
So, Diana, how can I find this online shop of yours? 😊
