When I conceptualised this program, I made a promise to myself not to be rigid about my creation. Rigidity is one of the things I’ve had to let go of, because I spent a lot of my energy in business and in private focusing thinking I was right, and feeling deep indignity when proven otherwise.
Aging To Be Me is a fine name, and it expresses much of what I think this program is about, but I realised about half way through the month of January it felt like a weight and not a feather. I need lightness to lead, and the name was not giving lightness.
I spoke at length with my friend Holly Becker, who is, in addition to many many things, a branding expert, and she suggested the word FLOURISH. I didn’t jump on it, but a few days later I realised its brilliance. When I started working with it in the graphic design, I saw it’s exactly what I’m looking to do. Flourish. Open up to new energy. With age comes both experience and wisdom, if we’re smart enough to pay attention.
I learned a lot in our first month together. VOICE poured out of you and you saw the voice of yourself as a child, and how we all are so much more complex than the ONE we project today, at this moment. We are the person we are now, but we are all the people we were, the bold and the scared and the wounded and the smart. We’re wild children aching for more - more colour, more song, more scrambling through the grass, more splashing, just more.
Just more.
We are more of everything but we tighten it up into a neat package that we hope is presentable enough to the outside world and forget the things that made this neat little package in the first place.
Which brings me to the next part of our program.
